Protect Affordable Housing

There are many actions the District can take to support affordable housing. I call on the D.C. government to take some very specific steps:

  1. Increase funding for Limited Equity Housing Cooperatives
  2. At least double funding for the Housing Production Trust Fund
  3. Strengthen rent control laws
  4. Build more public housing
  5. Finalize the rules for the District Opportunity to Purchase Act, a law the District has on the books that can protect and expand affordable housing

I support the use of public funding to help low-income families own and operate their own affordable housing in the city. The purpose of the government is to help those most in need and further the public interest, not to subsidize development that caters to the wealthy.
