On Tuesday, March 2, the Public Service Commission of the District of Columbia will be announcing its decision on Pepco’s outrageous request for a $44.5 million rate hike. This is your last chance to speak out against this outrageous rate hike request.
Pepco is ripping off consumers. Electricity rates in the District have doubled in the last five years. While D.C. families are being laid off and evicted from their homes during this severe economic recession, Pepco made $235 million in profits in 2009, and still it wants more.
TAKE ACTION! Click here to demand that the D.C. Public Service Commission deny Pepco’s rate hike. Our online campaign offers a sample letter you can use – it takes only a couple of minutes!
A copy of your letter will also be sent to the D.C. Office of the People's Counsel, D.C. Councilmember Muriel Bowser and D.C. Council Chairman Vincent Gray, who are interested in public input on this matter.
A $44.5 million rate hike may be great for Pepco’s investors, especially the big banks, but it will be a disaster for working families throughout the District of Columbia. The unemployment rate in the District has doubled in the last two years. More and more families are having to choose between paying their Pepco bill and putting food on the table.
Testimonies submitted by individuals and community organizations to the Public Service Commission show widespread, vehement opposition to Pepco’s proposed rate hike. If the Public Service Commissioners truly represent the interests of the D.C. residents who pay their salaries, they must deny Pepco’s request for a $44.5 million rate hike.
